About Me [ home ]I'm a California boy -- growing up mostly in Southern California, or Socal as they say there. San Marino High School was where I took four years of Latin (salve, amice!) and developed a liking for computers, math and science. Latin was supposed to prepare me for the SATs and medical school (says my mom), but it didn't help much. It did make me sound nerdier to others, not that I needed the help. After high school, I hopped down to San Diego to attend UC San Diego, Revelle College. I had a fantastic time there. Beautiful campus, fun classes, great beaches, wonderful people. I majored in Computer Science while preparing to be a pediatrician. Although I started off as pre-med, computers were just too fun! I worked at Agouron Pharmaceuticals during college and met lots of great people. I also took an interest in drugs. Instead of going to med school after graduating, I decided to try my hand in some down and dirty engineering. I joined Tachyon, a startup company in data communications. I learned so much from the folks there. Together, we developed an internet over satellite system which is now being used worldwide! After a couple of years, I decided to get back to drugs. Now, I'm at Stanford University in the Biomedical Informatics program. I sit in the Clark Center, working with Russ Altman and Doug Brutlag on learning about protein structure and function, all with the goal of developing new and better drugs. My friends and colleagues here are fantastic! When I'm not working on my research, I enjoy hanging out with my friends. We hike, rollerblade, karaoke, dance, drink, watch videos and movies, and do other things I can't mention here. On occassion I pick up my guitar and try to play a few songs, and recently I've picked up the harmonica. I had taken piano lessons before and my girlfriend is teaching me some new songs these days. I also do Wushu and Taichi. I like all kinds of music - jazz, classical, pop, 80s, soundtracks, musicals, etc. So there - a synopsis of my life. Send me a message if you're interested in computers and biology or share any of my other interests. [ Back to Home ] |
